Kate Berry

Kate is our first Teen to be Athlete of the Month!

She loves CrossFit so much she came on her birthday before they could go out to dinner. 🥳 She was also on every zoom workout this summer (although that may have been her mom needing a break 🤣). Kate works hard and I like to say her least favorite movement is rest - she hates having to wait to keep moving 🤣

Here is what she said about CFC.

✅ How long have been doing CF?
10 months

✅ What made you start CF?
My brother was doing the kids class with a friend, so I decided I would try the teen class while he was there.

✅ What changes have you seen since starting CF?
I had never lifted weights before so I have definitely gotten a lot stronger.

✅ What is your favorite/least favorite movement?
Favorite: pull ups because they are fun to work on Least favorite: I have 2 - bike and strict press. Bike because it takes forever and wears me out quick. Strict press because I’m not very good at the form.

✅ What is your favorite part of CF Conway?
The encouragement of everyone to push me to accomplish a goal.

✅ What are your long term goals?
Do all workouts RX. (Short term: win Hallowod)

✅ What advice do you have for people wanting to start CF?
Don’t be intimidated. The coaches are really nice and anyone can do it.

Jalen Sims is our spotlight athlete this month!

Jalen has been more consistent with his attendance and putting in extra work this year and it shows. “Jalen is jacked” is a common shoutout these days 😎.

Here is what he had to say about his CF journey:

💪🏻How long have you been doing CF?
3 years but this year I'm being more consistent with my attendance.

💪🏻 Why did you start CF?
I was getting tired of the same routine and didn't have any motivation or drive.

💪🏻What changes have you seen since starting CF?
My strength, endurance and most importantly my mindset have improved.

💪🏻Favorite/least favorite movement?
Power cleans are my favorite and my least favorite are thrusters.

💪🏻 What is your favorite part of CFC?
The community because without it, I believe that there wouldn't be crossfit.

💪🏻 What are your long term goals?
To be able to get Muscle ups and handstand walks.

💪🏻What advice would you give for people wanting to start CF?
Like everyday in life...go in with intent to be better than you were the day before. DO NOT be intimidated be other ppl because it'll only corrupt your progress. You are competing against yourself, not them.

Here is what Chris had to say about CFC:

How long have you been Crossfitting?
My first experience with CrossFit was in March 2011.

What made you start CF?
A friend told me he started a new workout program called Crossfit. I had never heard of it. He invited me to a Saturday morning WOD. At the time I had been doing P90X for about a year and thought CrossFit was probably similar. I couldn’t have been more wrong! The WOD was “Barbara” and it was eye opening for me. My overall strength, cardio, and mobility wasn’t even close to where I wanted to be. I was determined to achieve a higher level of fitness and was convinced CrossFit could help me get there.

What changes have you seen since starting CF?
CrossFit introduced me to a different way of thinking about fitness and nutrition. After starting CrossFit I began to focus more on both. I still have plenty of opportunity for improvement in all areas of fitness, but CrossFit has helped me achieve and maintain a more active and healthy lifestyle than I could without it.

What is your favorite/least favorite movement?
My favorite movement(s) are body resistance movements like push-ups, pull-ups, lunges. My least favorite movement is overhead squats.

What is your favorite part of CF Conway?
The CF Conway leadership team strives to promote and maintain a community atmosphere. They meet you where you are in your fitness journey. On those days when I have no desire to workout, I know as long as I do my part to get there, I always feel so much better when I leave.

What are your long term goals?
My goals have changed over the past couple of years. I want to focus on increasing/maintaining my strength through proper lifting techniques.

What advice do you have for people wanting to start CF?
CF is for anyone who wants to improve their physical and mental well being. Whether you are a beginner, novice or advanced regarding your level of fitness, there’s a place for you in CrossFit. I would encourage anyone to try it and experience the benefits so many others already are.

Bucky Bramlett

Bucky Bramlett is our featured athlete for March!

Bucky is our amazing Kids Coach and also a consistent attendee at our 5am class. Just that alone should win an award! 🏆

He has been doing CrossFit for years but recently decided to work on his nutrition. We don't have a good before/after picture of his progress (again he works out at 5am!) but the numbers speak for themselves! He's lost almost 7% BF in just 3 months - all while still gaining muscle!

He took advantage of our nutrition partner, Crave, and has their meals for lunch along with cutting back on his macros.

Super proud of you Bucky!! I think we all wish we could just do CrossFit every day and it would be enough - but it starts with FOOD!
