Chris Smith is our spotlight athlete!
He is a longtime member of CFC. Chris works hard and attends open gyms to work on his gymnastic skills. He also PR’d his Murph time this year and hopes to finish it RX next year! 😎
Here is what Chris had to say about CFC:
How long have you been Crossfitting?
My first experience with CrossFit was in March 2011.
What made you start CF?
A friend told me he started a new workout program called Crossfit. I had never heard of it. He invited me to a Saturday morning WOD. At the time I had been doing P90X for about a year and thought CrossFit was probably similar. I couldn’t have been more wrong! The WOD was “Barbara” and it was eye opening for me. My overall strength, cardio, and mobility wasn’t even close to where I wanted to be. I was determined to achieve a higher level of fitness and was convinced CrossFit could help me get there.
What changes have you seen since starting CF?
CrossFit introduced me to a different way of thinking about fitness and nutrition. After starting CrossFit I began to focus more on both. I still have plenty of opportunity for improvement in all areas of fitness, but CrossFit has helped me achieve and maintain a more active and healthy lifestyle than I could without it.
What is your favorite/least favorite movement?
My favorite movement(s) are body resistance movements like push-ups, pull-ups, lunges. My least favorite movement is overhead squats.
What is your favorite part of CF Conway?
The CF Conway leadership team strives to promote and maintain a community atmosphere. They meet you where you are in your fitness journey. On those days when I have no desire to workout, I know as long as I do my part to get there, I always feel so much better when I leave.
What are your long term goals?
My goals have changed over the past couple of years. I want to focus on increasing/maintaining my strength through proper lifting techniques.
What advice do you have for people wanting to start CF?
CF is for anyone who wants to improve their physical and mental well being. Whether you are a beginner, novice or advanced regarding your level of fitness, there’s a place for you in CrossFit. I would encourage anyone to try it and experience the benefits so many others already are.
